22nd April 2017

The Steel Gravel Tour is a cycling event celebrating the Tour de Yorkshire coming to Stocksbridge, as well as the fantastic countryside and paths in the surrounding area.

The route will be made up of gravel tracks, roads and couple of less well surfaced bridleways. You can use any bike you like, from a road bike to a mountain bike, although a gravel, cyclocross, xc mountain bike or hybrid type bike will be the best option for the mix of terrain on route. The route uses parts of the Stocksbridge loop, where the Tour de Yorkshire route will be doing two laps of the town and surrounding hills.

There will be a fancy dress competition (optional but encouraged!) with a yellow, blue and white theme, with prizes provided by Cotic bikes and the competition being judged by the Stocksbridge Mayor.

We will be having a woodland tea party on route, so you can fuel up with a nice cup of tea or coffee, a slice of cake and show off your costume!

The funds raised from the event will go to the Steel Valley Project, a countryside management charity- www.steelvalleyproject.org

The ride will be starting and finishing at Full Gas Bikes, located in the Fox Valley development in the centre of Stocksbridge, on the outskirts of Sheffield, the same place  the Tour de Yorkshire will be finishing a week later.

The whole route will be clearly signed and marshals will be on course to provide assistance.

Bike washing facilities and limited bike hire will be available from Full Gas Bikes, as will a fully stocked café. Plenty of other cafes, supermarkets, pubs and restaurants are available close to the event HQ.

There is ample car parking on site and good transport links, with the M1 10 minutes drive away, as well as rail links to Penistone, 4.5 miles from the event HQ.

This will be a fantastic adventure and challenge, with loads of fun on the way. The perfect way to get in the mood for the Tour de Yorkshire coming to town!
