Do I have to be a British Cycling member to enter?

You don’t need to be a BC member to enter the event. Simply click on the ‘ENTER’ button on the British Cycling website and then click ‘REGISTER’. You will then need to enter your details to sign up for an account, which is free and will enable you to enter other BC registered events.

What are the age restrictions for the ride?

The minimum age of participants for the event is 16 years.

What kind of bike do I need?

Any type of bike will get you round the route, as most of it is on gravel tracks or roads. A cyclocross, gravel or hybrid bike will suit the terrain best but a road bike or a mountain bike will be the best option for some parts of the course. Whatever you ride you’ll be having more fun than people on different bikes at some point on the course!

Is there plenty of car parking for the event?

Yes! We have kindly been given permission to use TATA Steel’s car park, which is adjacent to the event HQ at Full Gas Bikes. There should be ample car parking available for all participants on site, although there is also free on-street parking available nearby.

Will there be a feed station on the route?

We are having a woodland tea party, where hot drinks and cakes will be available to all riders. You’ll also have a chance to show off your fancy dress outfit!

What about fancy dress?

Fancy dress is part of the event and will give the event a unique and fun atmosphere. Cotic bikes have kindly provided prizes for the best dressed and the Mayor of Stocksbridge will be judging the competition. If you really want to take part in the event and don’t want to dress up that’s ok, but it’s encouraged.

How fit do I need to be?

The route is not to be underestimated! There is around 1400 metres (4,700 feet) of climbing and some of the climbs are very steep. You can always get off and push but there will be a (late) cut off for people who are struggling to make it to the finish.
